Description:
Allied Arts is an active non-profit organization whose mission statement states it is "fully committed to supporting the arts and artists of Whatcom County by fostering and creating an environment in which the arts are an integral part of the community." Allied Arts does not have a specialized focus or niche -- it is dedicated to nurturing all artistic endeavors. Operating out of downtown Bellingham, Allied Arts consists of a gallery (1,100 square feet), an assembly space (1,400 square feet) with a stage and offices. The assembly space, popular with other non-profit and community groups, is available to rent for business meetings, receptions and other functions.

Allied Arts takes a holistic approach with a three-pronged strategy to supporting the arts in this region: education, festivals and exhibitions. It provides hands-on art education to area school and community groups through the Artist in the Community program -- an effort to increase awareness of art at an early age. In the community itself, the organization hosts the annual "Holiday Festival of the Arts", which features artists, craftspeople and performing artists. In addition, Allied Arts assists theater productions, music and dance for local organizations. It also offers workshops focusing on creating art -- from metal work to paintings -- taught by local artists.

Perhaps the most important function of any arts organization is providing a means for artists to display their work. Allied Arts cooperates with other local organizations in sponsoring the Northwest International Art Competition, Chalk Art Festival and quarterly gallery walks. The organization updates its members on coming gallery events, showings and related news through their Web site and newsletter.

I lived in Bellingham as a teenager and it is my favorite place. I am interested in setting up a lifestyle that facilitates summering there and wintering in my current home of Tucson, AZ. I am an extremely talented painter and metal sculptor with many other skills including construction/remodeling. I founded and operate Studio 23, a shared art studio and gallery here in Tucson. I want to develop communication with an artist or someone in the Bellingham Arts Community via email. My work can be viewed at: www.yahoogroups.com/group/studio23artworks It would give me great pleasure to contribute to the Bellingham art scene.
