Description:
Anyone who has walked down Railroad Avenue is familiar with the heavenly smell that wafts out of The Bagelry, torturing hungry passersby. The large front windows offer a look inside to the ever-present book readers and coffee drinkers occupying the wooden tables and front counter of the restaurant. The business is separated into two sides; one side for orders to go and one side for dining. High ceilings and overhead fans give this bright breakfast eatery an airy, open feel.

As the name would imply, the focus of the Bagelry is hot, fresh bagels baked New York style from a secret recipe carefully guarded by the owner. Care is taken in the preparation of the bagels, and this special attention is reflected in the superior quality of the final product. Dough is hand rolled, “proofed,” boiled and baked. Bialy (pronounced “be-ah-lee”) style bagels are offered as well and are a variety of bagel without a hole; they are not boiled before they are baked. Despite the appeal to more sophisticated tastes, the prices of bagels are more than reasonable.

Novice bagel consumers may find themselves overwhelmed by the selection of bagels, not to mention the cream cheeses. Choices range from the more common raisin/cinnamon, blueberry and whole wheat bagels to pumpernickel, salted and bialy bagels for those with more eclectic tastes. Connoisseurs will not be disappointed with exotic cream cheeses like lox, sun-dried tomato and basil, scallion and a feta cheese/garlic/dill combination. Other breakfast items are included on the menu, including omelets, espresso and baked goods.

My wife and two kids visted for a late breakfast - we each ordered to bagels each with a different cream cheese spread on each ( The lox and the garlic/feta/dill combo were awesome.) Prices were more than fair, with the service great for a place this busy. We will be back on our next visit to try some of the other foods offered. Good job Bagelry crew!!!

I have eaten at The Bagelry for ten years and enjoyed it, except fot the last time. While eating there two weeks ago I saw a roach run across the newspaper I was reading while sitting in the window eating a omelette and bialy. I threw i out and won't go back.

Pumpernickel bagels are the BEST here. I used to buy 4 doz. and take them back to Hawaii in my suitcase when I lived over there. I'm now stuck in Sacratomato, CA and can't find similar ANYWHERE!!! The Biyali's are also FAB!!!!

The Bagelry has by far the absolute best bagels I have ever had! And their cream cheese is so delicious, especially the feta or italian cream cheese, its the best! Thanks Bagelry! Not to mention the price, its so cheap!

The Bagelry reminds me of the many bagel shops I frequented as a kid in my native NY area of Brooklyn. The bagels are always fresh and usually still warm when you get them. If you're in the mood for bagels and you actually know what a "real" bagel is suppose to taste like then you HAVE to try the Bagelry. By the way, if you're an onion lover, try the Bialys!

Weird service, staff and hours. But the "Only" real soul food around.

I can always count on The Bagelry for a smooth cup of French Roast at a reasonable price. Combine that with an out of this world fresh bagel and I'm in food heaven. Always warm and cozy with a busy big city atmosphere, it's fun to step into NY just for a minute!
