Description:
Nestled within one of Bellingham's oldest neighborhoods lies Elizabeth Park, the city's oldest municipal park. The homes in this Victorian neighborhood are the same age as any of the walnut, chestnut and big-leaf maple trees in the park -- well over 100-years old. The deciduous trees capture the nuances of any season: budding leaves and blossoming shrubs in the spring, chestnuts and walnuts falling to the ground in summer's shade, mounds of fragrant and brittle leaves in the autumn and snow-lined silver frost on the twisted, black bark of Elizabeth's trees in winter.

A fountain surrounded by benches is the centerpiece of the park and a fairly large gazebo matches the colors of the fallen leaves. Elizabeth has two tennis courts and one paved basketball court. Also, if the kids are too young to climb trees, they'll have fun on the slides, jungle gym and swing-set. Except for during the winter months, Elizabeth also has open restrooms.

The park's perimeter is a paved sidewalk and the paths within are gravel trails. Elizabeth is a great place to picnic and the surrounding neighborhood is a great place to roam and admire the ornate Victorian architecture.
