From downtown Bellingham, follow State Street to Fairhaven. After the road curves, past Boulevard Park, take a right. Look for the large hotel on your right.
Description:
Chrysalis Inn and Spa at the Pier is a modern inn with views of Bellingham Bay, the San Juan Islands and even British Columbia’s Gulf Islands. "They thought of everything," said one woman who was relaxing in the stone-tiled eucalyptus steam room. From the late checkout time, full complimentary breakfast including bacon and eggs, down comforters, room-delivered newspapers, CD players and VCRs in every room, and a wine bar on site, there isn’t much more you could ask for. The inn caters to those getting away and also those who can’t quite get away because they are on business. Two large meeting rooms equipped with Internet access are available.
Each of the 43 rooms has a water view and is decorated in "Northwest contemporary style," which apparently means "very fancy." The corner rooms and one-bedroom suites feature a two-person Jacuzzi bathtub with a screen door that opens out to the living room. The bathrooms feature stone tiles, separate showers, piles of fluffy towels and bathrobes, and spa soaps and lotions. Each room has a day bed for lounging or for use as an extra bed. Open the windows and let yourself be soothed by the sound of waves lapping at the rocks below. (Keep in mind, however, that the inn is situated mere feet from Burlington Northern’s railroad tracks; you may need to shut your windows at night.)
The spa has an extensive array of services. The staff recommends arriving 30 minutes early for any spa treatment in order to spend some time in the steam room. The "Day of Relaxation" combination package includes a candlelit moor mud bath, remineralizing gel wrap, age-defying facial, 60-minute hot stone massage, spa manicure, pedicure, and spa meal. This will involve six-and-a-half hours of relaxation, so be sure to turn the cell phone off.
The owners chose the name "Chrysalis" to express the feeling of change or transformation that can take place when rest is provided "for the body, mind and soul."
