Description:
These days, anyplace that serves a drink can be mislabeled a "bar;" but the bar is the first thing you notice. Archer Ale House is a bar in the traditional sense: A long, dark-stained wooden bar stretches almost the entire length of the main lounge area. The dark wood contrasts with the gold bars and trim that is generously spread through the bar. Holding the massive bar back from spilling out onto the streets of Fairhaven is what could be the most original brick walls in town. The large, bumpy-gray bricks appear to have been built with the idea of holding off an attacking army. Vivid green trim lines the top of the walls that eventually collide with the low, beige ceiling. Authentic English and Celtic music is playing softly through the bar area, giving the extremely clean Archer Ale House a relaxing and warm sense of style.

Sitting at one of the wood tables spread over the multi-shaded green carpet, your mind begins to play tricks on you, and you feel like you're drinking back in England circa 1900. Beer menus at the tables list a variety of local and import beers. A rating scale helps drinkers to choose a brew that is specifically suited to their taste. A five-star rating is considered a "world classic," a four star is "a fine example of the style," a three-star brew is "enjoyable and well-produced," and one and two rating brews are considered average. The beers available at Archer Ale House come from all over the Europe and the United States including Belgium, Germany, Holland and England. Off-menu beer specials are also available.

Appetizers, soups and salads are available to snack on. For less hungry patrons there are -- in the tradition of old England -- pretzels for munching. There are daily chef specials and other dishes like Beer Sausage Pizza and oysters.

I went to Archer's again this evening after learning about this pub only a few months ago after arriving Bellingham. The atmosphere is great and there is an extensive selection of beers available. Great atmosphere and a ton of laughs. However, the wait staff leaves something to be desired as many of my new friends will not even order if a particular blond waitress is working. Other than her cold and rather rude interactions through the evening, only until the bill comes of course, Archer Ale House is wonderful with a great beer menu and even better pub fare!

I enjoyed it there. Though that night, they were playing the music a little too loud. Though beware, there is a particular waitress there that's a real bitch. You can ask for beer selections or ask any other mature question and she'll roll her eyes at you and then take forever to deliver your--now room temperature--beer. So if you can catch a time when she's not on the job, it's a good place to be.

My Fiance and I recently moved to the area. We went to the Archer Ale House and had the best food and drinks. Our service was perfect so good that we stayed for cheesecake and cofee. It's a relaxing atmosphere.

I used to go the Archers back in the day (1999-2001) and I really enjoyed it. I recently went back for the first time in many years and was astounded by how it lost all its charm. It was noisy, busy, and they were serving hard liquor. I didn't stay long because I asked the bartender what they would suggest for a dark beer and was told "I don't have time to give you suggestions" and she walked off. There are plenty of wonderful drinking establishments in Bellingham, I suggest you search out one of them.

Worst service I have ever had! The server pratically threw the menus at us, rolled her eyes a couple times when we asked legitimate questions and denied us drinks, after less than two beers each! I'm not sure what their idea of service is (i've been a server myself for 4 years) but what we experienced was not service in any form.

Get an education will you sample the best brews. Cheerfull mature crowd. Lively, opinionated, informed staff. Surpisingly good eats proudly presented by your cook. Always a part of visiting Fairhaven.

The Archer Ale House offers our guests the opportunity to play traditional darts on a bristle dartboard. But please stop by and see us if you're looking for a wonderful experience in fine ales. Life is too short to drink cheap beer.
