Description:
Okay, quick, what do snowboarders who can’t get to snow, parents buying full sets of child’s size protective gear and kids with Razor scooters all have in common? They all want to know where skateparks are located, of course. And luckily, Bellingham has one of its very own!

Built during the summer of 2000, the 20,000 sq. ft. park consists of several vert ramps and banks around an 8-foot-deep bowl on one side of the park, with the other side featuring more banks, a pyramid, and a semi-snake run that connects back to the bowl area with a spine. Three quarters of the park is also bordered by a flat area with several rail, boxes and ledges. A new addition to the park is being designed by Grindline Skateparks, Inc., a skatepark construction and design firm with over 15 years experience in the field. The company said they made several changes to the design based on comments by local skaters.

This new addition will certainly improve the park, as the current park suffers from several drawbacks, such as some of the banks being too steep to allow many ticks to be done on them, and a design that does not flow as well as it could, which can make putting together lines between obstacles quite difficult. The addition, which consists of a street course and beginner area, should also increase the fun factor of the park, especially for younger and more inexperienced skaters who find the current park challenging.

Located off Lakeway Drive next to the Civic Field Athletic Complex, the park is bordered on three sides by trees, and also is next to a seemingly makeshift BMX dirt course. Restrooms are currently under construction.
